The importance of reading
I think reading is so important to society. People need to get off social media and start looking up off their phones and into the real world. Ironically, you might be reading this on your phone or computer, but at least you are engaging your mind. Children today are so used to waking up and checking their phones and social media accounts. What happened to reading a book or playing outside or talking to their family. Yes I have social media accounts, but recently I have been trying to distance myself from them and spend more time in the real world. Pay more attention to what is going on around me. There are so many things to be learned from reading. You can learn from others experiences, improve understanding, become more knowledgeable, and improve imagination.

When I began reading more and more and getting off my phone I became happier. I’d rather have my nose stuck in a book than down in a phone. I’m able to focus on my life not other peoples life. I’ve realized how much I enjoy singing, acting, writing and being with family. I feel that I am more aware of my surroundings and people around me. I’ve improved my communication skills. I can talk to people without feeling nervous and self conscious.

I’ve joined an online book club so that I can keep up with social events and read about new topics. This book club is specifically a feminist book club. Reading books that these people have suggested has helped me to get a better understanding of politics, mental health, and social issues.
The book club is...
